Sonnie reflecting over his pop’s memorial at the end of the video.

“Look, I cannot complain, this is everything I asked for” is such a poignant and self-aware way to start a verse. Sonnie seems to be at a memorial site and i’m guessing for his pops. My guy has had to grow up a lot since David’s passing, you can see it in his eyes. Very solemn lyrics. It’s tough watching the audible sigh of him walking up towards the gravesite. He’s definitely visited there a lot, i’m sure.

This is definitely a freeverse, a stream of consciousness flow. Matches the visuals for sure. Seems like just a couple cuts here and there to (try and) keep the focus on Sonnie and his intent. Sheesh. It’s okay to be sad right? I’m sad, I need him to get nastier with these bars one time in the name of escapism.

“I'm way better, the trendsetter, threw on my mask and fought for what i thought was right dog, a VENDETTA.” PHEW, okay, that flow switch was disgusting. I wasn’t paying attention at the start but i’m almost certain this is an Oh Gosh beat. A simple and effective instrumental, somewhat haunting. The contrast between the edge of the shots where it’s the rough streets as compared to the small floral tributes around him is a nice touch, probably unintended.

“Pops woulda been proud, look at the giants that i’m slaying, keep turning the pages, it’s the story of David.”

Sonnie for sure has a cheat code rap voice. And it’s almost assassin-like right now, measured and articulate. Meaningful. He’s eating on this verse for sure. Kinda wish this was all one shot so i could focus less on what i’m seeing and more on the bars. I’m pausing a lot. A receding drone shot ends the video with David sitting at the resting site of David.

Sonnie Babble is one of those artists with a raw and unfettered gift of gab, honing his ability through life experiences. Point of View is another notch on the marblestone of his life’s work, etching a perspective to looked back on years from now by the next David in line. A fitting tribute. Rest in power David Vara.
